Future-Proofing Healthcare: Teen Innovators Building Trust in AI Healthcare

In partnership with:

We asked 30 SuperSquad Sherpees this question:

How might we increase trust in AI healthcare, especially among elderly residents?

Introducing the Life Sciences SuperSquad:

But…what is a SuperSquad?

A practical, paid work experience programme where teens engage with real business and societal challenges.

Through the Life Sciences SuperSquad, this talented team of young people (Sherpees) tackled a real-world challenge: How might we increase trust in AI healthcare, especially among elderly residents?

Over six weeks, they worked on bold, creative solutions, delving into ethical AI, digital literacy, and public trust—the same issues industry leaders face today.

This initiative is more than just an exercise—it’s a blueprint for the future. Powered by Hammersmith & Fulham Council’s Upstream London Pathway Bond, it proves how investing in young talent connects businesses with the next wave of innovators—and ensures that the future of STEM is being shaped by those who will inherit it.

Young People Now Feel Confident to Explain What Life Sciences Actually Means

In just six weeks, the Life Sciences SuperSquad (with many entering the programme without prior interest or knowledge of Life Sciences) transformed a complex challenge into practical, innovative solutions—proving that when young people are given the right platform, support, and real-world problems to solve, they deliver.

77% of the sherpees now feel confident explaining the Life Sciences industry to someone, with 62.9% now considering a job in Healthcare and 81.4% viewing Hammersmith and Fulham Council more positively after participating in this squad.

Creating Real-World Impact on our Young People.

Curious Minds

The Sherpees had the opportunity to ask the H&F team anything and chose this question: “What are the biggest challenges in life sciences today?”

The H&F team responded by saying that beyond funding, antibiotic resistance is a growing crisis due to overuse, leading to longer hospital stays and life-threatening infections. AI is now a game-changer—machine learning is identifying effective antibiotics faster than ever, with two new ones already developed that wouldn’t have been possible through manual testing.
