But…what is a SuperSquad?
A practical, paid work experience programme where teens engage with real business and societal challenges.
Over six weeks, 50 diverse teenagers from London, Birmingham, Manchester, and Glasgow explored this real-world challenge, generating powerful insights and innovative solutions.
The project produced measurable outcomes in both social value and business relevance, demonstrating the potential of combining youth innovation with purposeful corporate partnership.
Cyber insurance is critical for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), yet uptake remains low. Chubb sought fresh perspectives to understand the SME mindset better and develop new approaches to engagement.
At the same time, Sherpas aimed to create meaningful opportunities for young people, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, to build essential skills and access paid work experience.
The SuperSquad programme delivered measurable outcomes that extended far beyond the duration of the experience. Students reported substantial growth in their confidence, communication, and problem-solving abilities, and demonstrated clear progress in navigating professional-style collaboration and deadlines. Many cited improvements in time management, creative thinking, and public speaking—skills directly aligned with real-world employability.
The programme also made a direct economic contribution by paying every participant for their involvement, placing over £6,500 into the hands of young people from communities that are often underserved in traditional work pathways.
Importantly, the experience acted as a catalyst for future ambition. Students left the programme with a stronger sense of career direction and a deeper appreciation of industries—like insurance—that had previously felt out of reach. Interest in Chubb as a future employer notably increased, reflecting the power of authentic, hands-on engagement to shift perceptions and open up new possibilities.
What stood out most during this SuperSquad was not just the students’ creativity, but their depth of understanding. They didn’t just generate flashy campaign ideas—they identified real barriers faced by SMEs and proposed meaningful, scalable solutions. A key part of this process was learning how to use ChatGPT effectively.
We showed them how to craft smart prompts to simulate conversations with SME owners, helping them gain insight into real-world business pressures like balancing operations, finances, and cyber risk. It was a brilliant demonstration of how AI can be a learning and empathy tool.
Equally powerful was the personal transformation many students experienced. As they explored how others should protect themselves online, they began to reconsider their own digital habits—from improving password security to critically evaluating their online presence. The project sparked a mindset shift: as they tried to change the world, they changed themselves too.
